LETTER: Do we have the will and wisdom?

Letter to the editor

Hats off to the writer of “We are all in this together” (July 19). That said, here are the 2020 election results, straight from FOX news. Biden: 81,283,495 national votes, 306 electoral votes. Trump: 74,223,755 and 232. Difference 7,059,740 and 74. Hardly a squeaker!

Unless perhaps, regardless of failed court cases, you bought into the Big Lie of a stolen election. That big “misbelief” led thousands of followers to converge on our Capitol on Jan. 6. It’s echoed in a recent rallying cry out of Texas.

Right wing arrogance, often taken to extremes, is cropping up globally. Putin’s attack is as fascist as Hitler’s storm troopers swarming over his own country. “Strong men” spring from angry and frightened populations. So apparent in places diverse as Cuba, Brazil, Poland, Iran, China, Hungary, and the Philippines. The list goes on. Nonetheless, as our fellow neighbor points out, we are all in this together.

Must our young men continue to kill and die for their warlords? What are we conserving? Where are we progressing to? There are no continents or even islands, to flee to. Already extreme heat is killing, sickening, straining and aging us.

People leave jobs they feel no longer offer support or meaning. Yet there is so much, so very much work to be done with millions on the move, fleeing land that no longer produces jobs. Acidic oceans and scorched land under our feet, we’re truly called upon to avoid misbeliefs!

Gather together. We have the technical tools with which to beat swords into plow shears. Do we have the will and wisdom?
