Child injured in Mossy Head shooting. Walton Sheriff's Office has person of interest

MOSSY HEAD — The Walton County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning shooting that sent one child to the hospital.

The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on Thursday when the WCSO communications center received a call regarding a shooting on West Cypress Avenue in Mossy Head. The caller told dispatchers that a juvenile was injured while he was asleep inside a home.

According to a release, deputies and Walton County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene, and the child was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for further treatment.

The Criminal Investigations Unit is still investigating the incident with follow-up interviews and neighborhood searches and has asked the Walton, Holmes and Okaloosa Correctional K-9 teams to aid in the search.

The Sheriff's Office said they have a person of interest but did not release the person's name.
